Jay Garnett is the visionary behind Icon Fine Wine & Spirits. Late 2009 Jay decided to merge his five-year old Whitefish Beverage Agency with a strategic business partner in order to grow his portfolio of brands and round out his agency's strong retail sales relationships with The Seacove Group's on-premise expertise.
Always the entrepreneur and strategic thinker, young Jay's first enterprise was selling eggs to his neighbors off an Alberta farm. In the early nineties Jay created a company that became the first international market owner for Seattle's Best Coffee and by 1993 the company, known as Whitefish Group, had established itself as an integrated food and beverage brand management company and was noted as one of Canada's fastest growing companies by Profit magazine. In 2005 Jay opened George Lounge, Vancouver's first ultra-lounge, and Whitefish Specialty Beverage Agency was soon to follow.
From selling eggs by the roadside to selling millions of dollars worth of food and beverage annually, Jay has made Whitefish Group a Canadian company worth watching, and he'll do the same for Icon. As a leading business executive, in 2005 Jay was selected as an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award finalist and was inducted into the Young Presidents' Organization (YPO). Jay also earned a spot in Business in Vancouver's 40 Under 40 in 2001.
Jay has completed entrepreneurial programs at Stanford and MIT, and has attended YPO and Young Entrepreneur Organization universities all over the world. Jay is Chairman of board for Steaz.comTM, a Director on the board of Spud.com, he is on the board of governors for Junior Achievement BC, and is Past President of the Vancouver Club.
Jay has a passion for food and wine and has an extensive personal cellar keeping his favourite wines close at hand.
