Domaine Lafond Roc-Epine is owned by Jean-Pierre Lafond and his son Pascal Lafond. It was Jean-Pierre’s great uncle, who was the governor in Tavel, who began growing grapes on his property in 1780.
In 1948, Jean-Pierre Lafond’s maternal grandfather, Valery Taulier, built the first private cellar in Tavel. Owner and merchant dealer in wine, he maintained economical ties with the “Bourguignon” trade and with the main Swiss importing firm. This resulted in the growth of Tavel as an appellation.
In 1970, Jean-Pierre Lafond, Valery Taulier’s son-in-law, decided to create the present cellar. Fond of horses, he named the winery after a famous horse: Roquepine. He just changed the spelling to give it a touch of Provence. Domaine Lafond Roc-Epine was born.
